The Monastery of Tatev

The Monastery of Tatev is a 9th-century Armenian monastery located in Tatev village in Syunik Marz in southern Armenia. The term “Tatev” usually refers to the monastery.

A legend tells of an event about the construction of the main church, where an apprentice secretly climbs to the top of its steeple intending to place a cross of his own design. However, the apprentice ls spotted by his master during his descent. The apprentice loses his foothold having been noticed, and he falls into the abyss as he calls upon God to grant him wings, which, in Armenian “ta tev”.

Tatev stands on a plateau on the edge of the deep gorge of the Vorotan River. It became the bishopric seat of Syunik and played a significant role in the history of the region as a center for economic, political, spiritual and cultural activity.

In the 14th and 15th centuries, Tatev monastery hosted one of the important Armenian medieval universities which contributed to the education of science, religion, and philosophy, reproduction of books and development of miniature painting. Scholars of Tatev University contributed to the preservation of Armenian culture and creed during one of his most turbulent periods in its history.

Some people say that music is a good way of bringing people of different cultures and ages together. The first reason Is, that music does not require its audience to understand the language to enjoy the songs, allowing people who don’t speak that particular language to connect with each other. Nowadays many pop songs hardly contain any lyrics and concentrate more on sound, beat, but they still are loved by many people around the world. This has proved that music represents a universal language that everybody speaks and shares feelings. Senior generations and young people can understand each other better by sharing a common favorite genre of music. Nowadays it’s not strange to see young people going to classical music festivals as well as older people finding themselves singing and dancing to new pop songs while driving. It is because music has no limitations and it enables people of different ages to explore other generations’ tastes and styles. There’s a music band called Now United; the group consists of 14 members, each of a different nationality. Since its debut, Now United has grown to fame in a number of countries worldwide; its main goal is to unite countries and nationalities using the power of music. In conclusion; we can’t deny the importance of music in our lives and its ability to glue people from multitude of cultural sectors and ages.
